The Bachelor of Arts program affiliated to Andhra University offers multiple combinations and opportunities in designing a great career. The program offers students a possibility to explore while learning, and certainly helps to choose the off-beat path. The Bachelor of Arts program has an array of interesting subjects like History, Economics, Politics, Geography, Public Administration to name a few. The students can dabble with different combinations of their choice. Almost all of them are academically and professionally enriching subjects and range from politics, human rights, human psychology, economic theories, content writing, editing, news reporting and presentation, journalism, etc. Hence, a degree in Bachelor of Arts is a stepping stone to various professions like law, academics, journalism, civil services, research and post research studies.

Pedagogy

Classroom lessons are enriched with interactive sessions. Seminars and workshops by eminent senior professors are organized throughout the year, by all the departments. They expound on new topics benefitting the students with an added pinch of rationale and experience. Modern teaching tools like LCD screens, Audio Visual gadgets and updated technology in the seminar halls are used to aid the staff in presenting the topics. Various assignments and projects are given to students to optimize the learning experience. Project work on various topics and regular assignments help hone their competent skills. A healthy competition at the peer level motivates the students to do better in the end of the semester examinations. Along with regular tests and the Internal Assessments, students are tested for their practical and creative skills. Students are also assessed on their participation in role-play sessions, presentations, group discussions, debates, book reviews and case studies. The department strives to build a value based system focussing on discipline, sense of ownership and responsibility towards self and society.

Program outcome:

At the end of the six semesters, the student is ready with first hand knowledge in the core subjects alongwith proficiency related to the civilization, culture, development of social behaviour, economy, literature, psychology, politics, journalism and much more. Critical thinking abilities prepare them for competency and productivity. Innumerable job opportunities are available in government and corporate sectors. Civil Services, like, IAS (Indian Administrative Service) and IFS (Indian Foreign Services) are the most promising careers post BA studies. Research and post research studies are also mostly sought after. The department is proud of its alumini securing admission into world class Universities viz Hyderabad Central University, Delhi University, TISS and APJ universities.

Quest for excellence :

Periodic unit and class tests are conducted to increase the qualifying percentage of the students. Internal assessement also plays an important role to achieve excellence. Teaching is not always limited to the chalk and board culture. The subjects and subject delivery mechanism is periodically revised to suit the market needs. The department also plans out mentor-mentee relationships to enable slow learners meet the mentor every week and obtain counselling on curricular and personality rejuvenation. Added to these, the faculty organizes guest lectures, seminars, quiz on relevant topics, pre-budget sessions and much more.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

• The Department is housed in Block 4, UG and Administration Building. The classrooms are spacious and give enough elbow space for the students to learn in comfort. The Department Library consists of a huge assortment of books related to various subjects written by well known authors. Every year the management of the college brings in the latest editions of famous authors to facilitate the students. The library has enough seating arrangement to accommodate students of a whole class at any given time.
• A well equipped computer lab with internet facility is available for the students to make use of information technology for learning besides being acquainted with on-line examination system on subject areas to fine tune the fundamentals necessary for their placements.
• The college houses 3 seminar halls for the UG Courses, equipped with the latest Audio Video Technology, LCD projectors and comfortable seating arrangement. Digital classes, Seminars, Guest Lectures, and Workshops held in such conducive environment adds to the learning experience

PLACEMENTS:

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell (CGPC) runs concurrent to the department to help the students connect with industry networks of business and other professionals. CGPC also conducts periodical placement drives on the campus and assists each student to attend off-campus drives conducted by the university and other colleges. The Department of Arts, CGPC and SDC work in coherence on various activities to train and prepare students to face interviews successfully. Every year after the V Semester, several reputed companies visit the campus creating multiple opportunities for students to pursue their career goals.

PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS:

MOCK PARLIAMENT: Every year the Department conducts a Mock Parliament under the guidance of the HOD and the lecturers. The Mock Parliament is one of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited events in the campus. Students represent the existing political parties and their leaders. Dressed as politicians they participate with great gusto. They speak on the burning topics in our country and address the problems, similar to our Parliament in Delhi. It can be said that the Mock Parliament is one of the many jewels in the campus.
PRE BUDGET SESSION: Another event to hone the skills of the students is the Pre Budget Session. The students exhibit their skills in reviews on Policy making in Indian Administration economy and present the Budget for the year. This too is like a mirror of the real budget session of our country.
