Overview

The Bharat Scouts & Guides (BS&G) is the national Scouting and Guiding association of India. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, BS&G operates as a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-communal organization. Scouting was introduced in India in 1909, followed by Guiding in 1911. The organization is structured in a hierarchy of local, district, and state associations, with the President of India serving as Chief Patron and the Vice-President of India as Patron. Regular training and reorientation programmes are conducted for Scouts, Guides, and their leaders. Scouting / Guiding is an approved method of character building for good citizenship aimed at developing leadership qualities and promoting self-control, self-reliance, and self-direction.
