Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College

PROFILE

The Department of Microbiology, located in the PG Block of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College, was established in 2001. The department was founded with the vision of empowering students to secure strong positions in research, post-research studies, and high-profile roles in their desired industries. It is proud of its commitment to quality education and its consistent success rate in student qualifications.

Microbiology, as a field, focuses on the study of microorganisms and their significant role in maintaining both human health and environmental balance. Microbial activities are diverse and are vital for sustaining ecosystems. With the rapid advancements and expanding applications of microbiology in human and environmental sustainability, the curriculum, designed by Andhra University, aims to equip students with expertise in the core areas of the subject. The MSc Microbiology course is spread over four semesters across two years, with each semester including four theory papers and two practical papers, each carrying four credits. Additionally, the fourth semester includes mandatory project work, also worth four credits, and a comprehensive viva voce at the end of each semester.

The department also operates a Research Centre, sanctioned by Andhra University, which offers both Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Microbiology.
