PROFILE

M Sc Mathematics is a two-year post graduate program divided into four semesters. With a sanctioned intake of 30 students, this department was

incorporated as the first Post Graduate

program in the college during the academic year 1994-1995 under the headship of Prof. P. V. Krishnaiah, former Professor of Mathematics, Andhra

University.

This is a program where the learner finds resources to visualize research opportunities in areas like Geometry, Number theory, Differential Equations,

Calculus, Algebra, etc. The study of

Mathematics develops in learners the power of reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving ability and effective

communication skills which plays a vital role in almost every aspect of human society. The department offers a vibrant environment for professional

development and scientific discourse for Research and Post-Research studies.

Competitive and updated syllabi, quality students input and high pass percentage are the strengths of the department.

Programme Highlights:

Student intake : 40 (32 convener quota and 8 management quota)

Course duration : 2 years (full time)

Admission criteria: Any science graduate with Mathematics as one of the core subjects and a qualifying rank in APPGCET (Andhra Pradesh Post

Graduate Common Entrance Test) is eligible to pursue this course.

Program pattern: 4 Semesters. Each semester has 5 theory papers. In 4 th semester along with 5 papers, there is a viva voce examination and students

have to submit project work.

Students have to qualify one MOOCS course of two credits in their 3 rd semester and 4 th semester. The examination constitute of internal assessment

20% and external assessment 80%.

Mathematics Day is celebrated in the department every year on 22nd December, commemorating the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Sri

Srinivasa Ramanujan.
