PROFILE

The PG Department of Biochemistry, affiliated to Andhra University, came into existence in the college in the year 2002. Biochemistry is a branch of science that deals with the chemical and physicochemical processes that occur within living organisms. It is a blend of elements from both Biology and Chemistry. Biochemistry is the foundation for understanding all biological processes and investigates the cause of many diseases in humans, animals and plants. Biochemists prepare medicines, research the causes of diseases and suggest precautionary measures to prevent civilizations from ailments.
Any graduate in Chemistry who has qualified in AUCET (Common entrance test conducted by Andhra University) is eligible to pursue this course. The PG course in Master of Science in Bio-Chemistry is divided into 4 semesters. In the first three semesters, there are 4 theory papers and 2 practical examinations with a credit score of 21. In the 4th semester, there are only three theory papers and one practical examination. The student has to do a project and give a presentation that totals to a credit score of 19. A comprehensive Viva Voce is also included at the end of each semester.

Program Outcome

At the end of the program, students learn Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Clinical Biochemistry, Enzymology etc. Students can build their career in the Health care Industry, Pharmaceutical Companies, and Industries related to Biotechnology, Food, Water and Agriculture. Research and post research studies are the other opportunities subsequent to PG Biochemistry.

Infrastructure

The Department has two well equipped laboratories which house major equipments like Orbital shaker, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, cooling centrifuge, deep freezer, laminar airflow, etc. It has also got 2 spacious classrooms overlooking the Basketball court and the greenery in the campus.
The library has a huge assortment of various books related to all the PG courses and has ample seating arrangement for the students.
The PG building also has a computer lab with the updated technology and internet facility. The Seminar hall in the first floor is available to conduct digital classes, seminars, workshops, and more. It is equipped with the latest audio-video technology, LCD projectors and a comfortable seating arrangement.

Activities

1.The Department regularly organizes guest lectures by eminent persons both from academia and industry. Students are encouraged to give presentations at seminars on topics related to Biochemistry other than that in the curriculum.
